I was born in an island in the Caribbean, owner of the only 7 color seas…in San Andres Island. My story begins at the age of 7 when I knew my destiny, my passion and my life was being a singer. That morning when I started singing the popular Panamanian and Jamaican tunes that was played in the dance halls.
At the age of 11 I was struck the second time by a debilitating illness called (Guillain Barre), that almost cost me my life. It was then when I discovered that the music was a universal language and decided to make it my life expression. Miraculously I recovered from an illness in which I could only move my head, my desires and passion to learn music became a reality and I started studying it, and begin my career by singing in the musical events of the school where I studied.
My professors that heard me singing all day long in the classrooms, recognized my talent and advised me to study music more deeply, and without even realizing it, at the age of 13 the people from my island was recognizing me as a local sensation, a star in my native land. It was then, when the leader of a local reggae band very recognized back then called BLACK STAR heard me singing, and invited me to join them… a dream come true.
Since then, my musical and artistic life began shining with a light of its own. At the age of 16, we were invited to perform in the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia. I remember I got a school permit in order to be able to fulfill that long awaited trip and my destiny to travel and to be able to fulfill my dreams in Colombia as a singer. At this time, I discovered that music was my life. In this memorable trip to Colombia, I had the great pleasure of sharing stages with artists both national and international, very recognized those days such as: O'Yaba, Lucky Dubby, Pato Banton, The Wailers, Equimosis (Juanes previous band), Carolina Sabino, Magical Beat, just to name a few.
It was then that we decided along with some band mates to form a band called K-YO, a band that in several national tours reaped great triumphs and achievements.
In 1998 I had the privilege to be invited by Marbelle-the Colombian sensation of that moment, to collaborate with her in her song "El TUMBO”. After this collaboration, her manager Luis Miguel Olivar presented my bands demo to the Colombian producer Camilo Montilla, who instantly showed interest and decided to record Obie-P.
This way we achieved our first album entitled "Pure Bla Bla Bla" name of the album and one of the most successful songs and radio of those days such as, El Cuerero, Pipiripi, Adriana & K-YO Ha Llegado, songs that I wrote and interpreted.
K-YO was the opportunity I had to open the doors for the urban music of the island in which I was born.
Product of this effort and musical vision, the popular record label Warner Music Colombia invited me to be part of a compilation with my song "Racista"
EXPANDING HORIZONS
After few years interpreting and growing with my music in South America, I decided to broaden my horizons and musical experience in Asia. I traveled along with a Colombian band to Beijing for a concert, which opened doors for me to reach to Indonesia along with a band called “Latin Soul” Where I was spot by an international band called “Shiok Crew”, they showed interest, and I invited me to join them; An experience that gave my artistic career excellent results on large Asian scenarios.
As in a magic labyrinth, a door opens another, I beginning to consolidate my artistic career in large Asian scenarios. After this experience, I had the opportunity to be part of an America band called Max-Tempo, where based in Dubai I continued submerging into the Asian music scene, performing in countries such as China, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, United Arab Emirates among other Asian countries, sharing stages with popular Asian singers such as: Kirs Dyanti, Project Pop, Dewa, just to mention a few, spreading my message and musical language… language that does not require translation: it speaking with the heart.
