Emerging vocalist and songwriter Kaylee Johnston is busy building a buzz around herself. This young new artist is songwriting, recording, plus a video and tour are in the works.
This Vancouverite produced her first demo four years ago. From that came the song “Arms Around Me”; which garnered her: a finalist slot in the Canadian Radio Star songwriting competition; placement in a made-for-TV movie, a feature on CBC radio; plus a guest spot on the Jack FM morning show.
She worked with producer Eric Solomon in 2009 on three songs, “Ego” was featured on Virgin Radio’s Best of BC.
Busy songwriting since, her lyrics now are personal statements that take very different and unique approaches. For women of her generation, Kaylee’s songs are like a self-help book put to music.
In this new writing, she emotes about the unpredictability of life and love, amid beats that mix chic electro with pop rock liveliness. She delivers with a vocal that is sweet yet sassy.
This winter Kaylee teamed up with engineer/ producer Jeff Dawson and has been in Mushroom Studio recording the tunes Streetlight and Bigger Than You off her upcoming debut album. The material, musicianship, performances and production are all first rate and attention to detail is prevalent.
Kaylee has warmth and humour, yet she takes her music seriously. Now with the new CD, video, and live shows Kaylee feels as if she has nowhere to go but up.
First and foremost a fan of music, Kaylee enthuses, “I just love how music can make a moment a hundred times better”. The powerful spark she brings to her escalating career verifies this testimony.
