Vena Amoris is a band about passion. The name comes from the myth that a vein in a person's ring finger leads directly to the heart, and it is a metaphor for the intense love that the band's five members all have for their instruments, their songs, and music in general. Formed in the summer of 2010 when drummer John Gagne contacted guitarist Paul Jacovino, the band has since evolved into its current lineup with many accomplishments under its belt. After only one year together, Vena Amoris had put out a four-song EP titled Cauterize and, along with playing out in the local scene, had played on the Fitchburg, MA stop of the All Star's Tour (featuring Emmure, Born of Osiris, After the Burial, Chelsea Grin, In This Moment, iwrestledabearonce, and blessthefall); they also played the Hollywood Undead and All That Remains tour date in Fitchburg, MA.
By the second year, their accomplishments had increased exponentially. Vena Amoris has won three battle of the bands contests. The first was Break Through Music's battle of the bands in Hartford, CT, January 2012 for a $500 merchandise prize package with All In Merchandise. The second Break Through Music battle of the bands they won was the Battle for Metal Fest at the Palladium in Worcester, MA, where Vena Amoris won the opening slot on the mainstage for the last day of New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. That allowed them to play on a show featuring Killswitch Engage, Everytime I Die, Volumes, Vana, I, the Breather, Upon a Burning Body, and Texas in July. Another competition that the band won was the Headbang for the Highway battle of the bands presented by Rockstar Energy Drink and judged by Ken Susi of Unearth at the Webster Theater mainstage in Hartford, CT. Winning this earned them a spot on the Sumerian Records stage at the Hartford, CT date of Mayhem Festival at the Comcast Theater (featuring such bands as Slipknot, Slayer, Motorhead, Asking Alexandria, Anthrax, As I Lay Dying, and Whitechapel). Their most recent battle that was won was the Headbang for the Highway: Road to the Sphinx battle to get signed by Sumerian Records. They went through round one as the only band in CT and are playing round 2 in Trenton, NJ for a shot to move on to Hollywood, CA in round 3. Their song "Consuming Existence" was featured on the Total Deathcore Volume 4 compilation album and CT Metal Alliance Compilation.
With Kyle Whitehead on vocals, Paul Jacovino and Tony Vitarelli on guitar, Josh Boucher on bass, and John Gagne on drums, Vena Amoris has accomplished a lot in their short time together. Noted for their incredibly tight live performance, Vena Amoris combines elements of progressive metal music with other modern metal and hardcore influences. The band is currently writing and recording their full-length concept album aniticipated to be released mid-late 2013.
