Terah is a very optimist Ugandan who grew up in the suburbs of the capital – Kampala and spent most of his life there.
At the age of 6, Terah started to sing before church congregations, at wedding ceremonies and parties of family and friends in the country. A few years down the road, he started to sing with individual recording artists as a back-up vocalist and also did back-ground vocals for Season’s of Life by Moses Mukisa, and Lynnet K. Nsubuga’s Kyomu-We Album. He has sang at concerts and music events in Kampala, with the most recent being the ‘Not Guilty Worship Experience’ by Lynnet in Kampala in late 2011.
Today, he lives in Denmark and has had opportunities to perform at Music events in Helsingor and Rodvre Copenhagen in 2006 & 2011.
He is a graduate from Makerere University Kampala with a BA. Arts in ‘‘Organizational studies & Communication Skills.’’ While studying at the University, he participated in a couple of Music concerts and Events within and outside the city. He was a singer in a band called ‘Voice of Celebration (VOC) in Kampala, a singer with the St. Francis Chapel Music Team at Makerere University.
After completion of his undergraduate degree, he joined Worship Harvest Music Team in Kampala. He says; ‘‘I am So Honoured to be part of this particular music group because it has made me the Musician & Person I am today. Worship Harvest is my home in Kampala.’’
His Music is in more than one genre. There is probably not one genre that best describes all his songs. On his debut album ‘Icing Sugar’ you find a fusion of styles and genres which makes this album so special to him and so different from many albums out there. I must say that ‘Icing Sugar is a ‘Must Listen’.
Most of his songs however would fall under Alternative, African, World, Jazz, Soul, Neo-soul, Blues, Afro-Jazz, Reggie and Singer Songwriter genres.
Terah’s main instrument is ‘His Voice’. However, he also plays Piano and Guitar. His music Ensemble comprises of a Pianist, an Acoustic guitarist, a Drummer, a Percussionist (Congas), Xylophonist, Strings, Electric Guitarist, a Trumpeter, a Saxophonist and Back-up Vocalists who also sometimes take lead parts in songs.
When he writes songs, he focuses on a Positive Approach toward Life, Positive Thinking, Encouragement, Second Hope, Unity, Forgiveness, Love and Peace.
He says; ‘‘I enjoy reminding people that there is always hope for tomorrow. I encourage people to think outside the box. I encourage my listeners to operate in what I call a ‘Sixth Sense’ and encourage them to stop drawing conclusions based on today’s projection of lives.’
He adds, ‘I believe in God and I understand that He loves me very much and also loves every individual person I will ever meet. I use music to speak my mind. I try to package music in ways I believe are more appealing and appropriate to me and to my target audience. People have been condemned so much by today’s church that they are no longer interested in hearing about God. They are tired of hearing the ‘‘Dos’’ and ‘‘Don’ts’’, which explains why many say they can no longer stand church music. It almost sounds like what was once The Good News is now The Bad News. It is getting easier to believe that there is not any more Good News left.
All my songs are built on biblical principles and poetry even if they may not necessarily sound like from the first time you listen to them.
I enjoy connecting with society through music and I express it best through music.
When I speak to people through music, I am basically reminding them that God is actually not as bad as he has been branded! His real nature is Love. Just because he allows bad things to happen to them, it doesn’t mean He does bad things to them. He should not be held accountable. No, he is not responsible for the bad things that happen to them.’’
Terah also often reminds his listeners and fans that there is absolutely nothing they can ever do to please God, because he is already pleased with them anyway. All they need to do is to ‘‘Chill-out, Lean-back and REST.’’
On 2nd June 2012 in Randers Denmark, he releases his debut album titled ICING SUGAR. It has a total of 10 songs in at least 5 different languages. It has a unique sound. In fact, you would be cheating yourself if you ignored this particular album. Every song on Icing Sugar has a significantly different style, genre and sound and the final product turned out to be good.
If you are looking for something different from the ordinary, ‘‘Icing Sugar’’ is one album I would recommend.
Over the years musicians like Incognito, Worship Harvest, India Arie, Jill Scott, Moses Mukisa, John Legend, Erykah Badu,
Lynnet K. Nsubuga, Kirk Franklin, Alicia Keys, Angela Nakandha, Emmanuel Okullo,Fred Hammond, Adele, Ayo, Assa, Lisa McClendon, Jamie Cullum, The Floacist, Michael Bubble, Joss Stone among others have been some of his greatest influence.
