TUSCAE GENTES Ensemble was born in 1992 from an idea of Daniele Poli. The band is made up of musicians coming from various musical experiences in Italy and abroad, both in the field of classical music and of other genres.
In the name of the band we find the key element which has fostered the encounter of these artists, i.e. the common interest in ancient, medieval and renaissance music - played on original instruments often manufactured by themselves – and in folk Tuscan music, with both a work of arrangement and performance and a work of study and research.
The turning point of their artistic activity is this new CD and the homonymous show Quando il merlo canta - Songs and sounds of seasonal migrations in Tuscan Appennino, Corse and Maremma. It’s an accurate operation of research, reclamation and new proposal of Tuscan folk music finding unanimous approval both of critics and public.
Among the relevant participations of the latest months: Festival Tradizioni e oltre in Pistoia, Il giorno di Giovanna by the prize Daffini 2003 (won by Daniele Poli), radio world live broadcast on Notturno Italiano on radio RAI-International , live concert on RAI RADIO TRE by the program La stanza della musica , Festival della Val d’Orcia, Festival Percussionistica, Festival Musicastrada, Festival sentieri acustici, more than various television programs.
In 2003 Daniele Poli and TUSCAE GENTES have received the prize Citta’ di Montalcino for the diffusion of folk culture in country Tuscany.
