Rocksound album review
Recalling dancefloors loaded with neon socks, electric hair and severe Cuban-heeled swaggers, this debut from Londoners Burningpilot is seriously cool. With a modern outlook but nodding towards the hedonistic New Romantic era with a tongue firmly in its cheek, 'Cold Caller' is like falling back in time through the doors of the legendary Blitz - the heart of London's alternative 80s club scene. There's definitely more than a touch of Mark E Smith about singer 'Channel #3' and Accelerate saunters along like a less caustic, indie version of The Fall covering Visage's Fade to Grey, while Starter Pack has hints of Franz Ferdinand. A glorius riot.

Artrocker give Cold Caller "Album of the Month"
Well, this is a rather good album! DROWNING in its own cool, 'Cold Caller' is a record filled with proper indie-dancefloor fillers. The first track 'Accelerate' is also Burningpilot's first single from this, their debut album and builds up with Burningpilot key changes from major to minor, slapping on a disco beat to reach a frenetic finale.
'Case History' is the sound of Young Knives cutting off Franz Ferdinand's trendy haircuts using only their guitar pics. Man, the synth is so sexy on this album.
'Automatic Text Generator' is accompanied by fidgety strumming and twirly whirly synth that actually 'wooshes' through the song. There's no better way to describe it, really. Woosh!
'Entertainment Correspondent' is a classic example of Buringpilot's ability to weave totally chromatic harmonies and different sounds within each other. The vocal stylings are Talking Heads meets The Specials while still maintaining a definite funky instrumental feel to the music. computer game noises, like title track 'Cold Caller' are effective and heady. 'White Clipping' is a complete contrast, as we slow things down for a chugging, slow number that's atmospheric and uplifting to say the least.
This album is space-age enough to rival Late of the Pier or The Lost Levels, but musical enough that it doesn't let the technology smother the sentiment. If you are unaware of these impressive chaps then I suggest you raise your own awareness and make them part of your life. Like, now.

Cold Caller album review by Nick Annan in the new issue of Clash magazine:
Following a triptych of sizzling singles, Burningpilot return with a full album, their “we’ve arrived” debut.
Signed to Transgressive Records (Jeremy Warmsley, The Young Knives, Ladyfuzz), everything is set for their ascent to super stardom. Wait though, what of the music? Burningpilot favour a metallic, Eighties rush of sound, throwing out echoes of The Fall, The Stranglers and general post punk desolation amid fizzing synths. The band do a sterling job of setting out their stall, showcasing all that’s good about Burningpilot on these ten tracks that justify the rush for their previous sold out singles.
This issue of Clash magazine (featuring The Killers on the cover) also comes with a CD, containing Burningpilot's "Case History".
