Bernard Lachance was born on June 23rd, 1974 in Lévis, on Quebec City's South Shore. He was raised in the small town of Montmagny where his musical background was nurtured by his family; while his father taught music at the local school, his sister filled their home with the classical sounds of the piano. Needless to say, this had a major impact on Lachance, enticing him to attend the Quebec Conservatory of Music in 1989 to study the trumpet. He not only excelled in this craft, but his studies also allowed him to develop his skills in other areas such as piano and singing. He graduated school with a greater appreciation for music and a clear understanding of what he needed to do with his talent. In 1992, Lachance left the comforts of his hometown and headed to Montreal to follow his dream of breaking into show business. His first years in the city were spent learning and observing the field; he started taking voice lessons with Hélène Parent and also spent his time attending various TV show tapings as an audience member to simply get a feel for what it would be like to be one day in front of the camera.
Two years later, Lachance returned to his hometown with a marketing strategy unlike anything we've ever seen: he recorded a demo tape and mailed a copy to every citizen of Montmagny in the hopes of creating a buzz. His efforts were rewarded and the first sign of his impending success came on September 17, 1994 in front of a sold-out audience, as he presented his first solo show. Lachance's street smarts left many in awe, but it didn't end there.
After releasing his first album, Seul, in 1998, and his self-produced second album, ad libitum, in 2001, Lachance, once again, took matters into his own hands. He managed to sell a staggering 10,000 copies of his sophomore album, despite the lack of a record deal, and aimed to spread the word on his talent on a bigger scale. For weeks on end, Lachance roamed the streets near the Capitole de Québec and the Bell Centre in Montreal selling tickets to his own show, convincing one person at a time that his talent was worthy of attention. He managed to book both venues and sell-out both shows. Lachance’s charm and conviction touched many, including local critics: "A powerful voice, charismatic and determined!", "A marketing genius bound for success!"
In January 2006, Bernard Lachance returns with a new album, While I Remember You, confirming his rightful place in the industry.
