Voltax is a speed metal band from Mexico. They were formed in 2006 and they have released one more full length before that. The band has signed with Blower Records for their releases. Five people make the band, but they use session members for the lives. 
 
80s-style Heavy Metal is what you get from Mexico's Voltax on their second album. The songs range from Speed/Thrash, in the vein of Nuclear Assault (helped by lead singer Jerry's vocal resemblance to John Connolly), to more NWOBHM mid-paced riffing like early Iron Maiden. The production is raw, as you might expect, and Jerry is harder to understand than Tom G. Warrior with a mouth full of marbles, but Voltax bring the energy, if not the songs. 
 
Overall, I would classify Voltax as "average." The songs are not particularly well written and the performances are pretty pedestrian. That said, the aforementioned energy is hard to ignore. It sounds like these guys let everything hang out when they play, mistakes or missed notes be damned. I can't really think of any standout songs, even after several spins. 
 
There's nothing really wrong with Voltax. You won't wish you'd sat in a dentist's chair for an hour rather than listen to the album, but there just isn't anything great about it either. Some better songs and a tighter performance next time out would do much to move Voltax's career forward.
