Judith Berkson is a soprano, pianist, accordionist and composer living in Brooklyn, New York. She studied voice at New England Conservatory with Lucy Shelton, theory and composition with Joe Maneri, and piano with Judith Godfrey and Viola Haas. 
 
She has played at the BrucknerTage in Austria, the American Festival of Microtonal Music in New York, the Jewish Kultur Festival in Krakow and has premiered works by Gerard Pape, Ken Thomson, Matthew Welch, Ohad Talmor, Steve Coleman, Hans Breder, Carlos Cuellar, and Julia Werntz. She has worked with ASM New Music Ensemble, Wet Ink New Music Collective, Delphian Jazz Orchestra, Steve Coleman and the Five Elelments and The Four Bags performing new chamber music as well as lieder by Schoenberg, Webern, Mahler, and Brahms. 
 
Her solo cd "Lu-Lu" from Peacock Recordings, is a recording of originals, jazz standards, and Schubert lieder called "a quiet but intense record made with commitment and heart...she’s creating an atmosphere, one long reverie, and she stamps her own disposition on the broad range of songs she chooses to cover." (New York Times) 
 
Judith is also a cantor and works at Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation Kehilat Shir Ami in New York. Her experimental band Platz Machen is inspired by cantorial music and Hebrew liturgy.
