Klammheim is a new band entering the neofolk arena with this debut CD, released by Heimatfolk. Like Sturmpercht and J?nnerwein, Klammheim come from Austria, and bring their heritage into the music in two different ways: first of all, singing all lyrics in their local Styrian dialect (south-eastern Austria), but also letting certain unusual and slightly pop influences slide in. Indeed, some of the most convincing tunes on “Heimw?rts”, like opening “Heimat” or “Vom H?chsten Gipfel”, sport an almost Schlager-like atmosphere (even if, in their case, we should better talk about Austropop, a particular all-Austrian musical scene born towards the middle of the 1970s’), with singer Dea’s shrill voice producing nice melodies on quite enjoyable folk sounds. Another well-conceived song is certainly “Nix Wies Wor”, whereas final “Abschied” tries to enrich the sound with some electric guitar inserts.Influenced by Death In June and Wolfgang Ambros (the father of Austropop) as much, Klammheim deliver nice, melancholic acoustic songs which, however, suffer from a certain repetitiveness along the CD’s full length. “Heimw?rts” could, anyway, anticipate the blossoming of a new interesting name in the German-speaking neofolk scene, who could also develop a well-defined personality. Much like the majority of the recent titles released by Steinklang Industries’ sublabels, it comes as standard digi-CD as well as limited edition deluxe boxset.
