For those latecomers to the Immortal game, Demonaz is the man behind the scenes: conceptual mastermind of Blashyrk, chief lyricist and former guitarist for the Norwegian Black Metal legends.  
 
Although severe tendinitis effectively eliminated Demonaz’s ability to handle Immortal’s extensively tremelo-picked riffing style, this regretful situation hasn’t hampered the man’s compositional skill or ability to deliver lead vocals, as evidenced by March of the Norse, the highly anticipated debut from Demonaz and his band.  
 
Demonaz’s crew consists of members from I, another Immortal side project from vocalist/guitarist Abbath, and the influence shows, for March of the Norse is an extensive musical journey into the frosbitten Nordic lands of Bathory: a place where Viking metal still run rampant across the Christian horde.  
 
This probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given both Demonaz and Abbath’s noted affection for their Swedish metal forefathers. If anything Immortal threw their own stylistic hat in the ring in similar fashion on “Beyond the North Waves,” from their acclaimed 2002 effort, Sons of Northern Darkness. In comparison, March of the Norse soldiers on, almost as a continuation of this track-combined with I’s own epic metal slant-resulting in an easy and enjoyable listening experience, destined to please those yearn for magnificently epic riffs and soaring, emotional song structures.  
 
Demonaz proves here that the godfathers still have ‘it;’ that inimitable magic necessary to deliver this quintessential style of Norwegian metal to the hilt. Many have tried and failed to capture the atmosphere Demonaz so elegantly and easily provides here on March of the Norse…further proof that you can’t beat the old school at what they do best.
