1957 – Born in Rome, first son of Piero Martini and Miranda Martelli.
1965 – Under the influence of his father, involved in jazz and classical music, he started listening to swing bands and jazz players (Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young). In the same year, while in Buenos Aires where he was living with his family, he listened for the first time to a Beatles song, “Hard day’s night”.
1970 / 72 – In this period he discovered the music of Van der Graaf Generator, Soft Machine, Can, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Tim Buckley and Popol Vuh and many other rock bands. It’s a revelation!
1973 – He started studying flute and then clarinet with prof. Stefano Monti (Teatro alla Scala) and prof. Giovanni Iuliano (Ensemble Garbarino). First interest in contemporary jazz and Free Music (Art Ensemble of Chicago, Ornette Coleman, Anthony Braxton, AMM, Evan Parker…).
1977 – First experiences in jazz and rock bands (Marco Volpe Quartet, Avantgarde Trio, Topi nervosi, ecc).
1980 – Clarinet player in the Canterbury rock band Muta Metu, conducted by Roberto Kriskak.
1984 – Together with Angelo Avogadri, Robert Saleri, Marco Marchetti and Roberto Gigliotti he founded the Zint Group, an avantgarde rock band. The band did more then 100 concerts in Italy and realized the LP “Curve and Crane” (Musea Parallele). Six years later the band split up.
1985 /94 – Collaboration with the “Auditorium” musical magazine, writing reviews and articles. During this period he worked also with La 1919 and Massimo Giuntoli. Recordings and concerts.
1994 – Contacts with Giancarlo Locatelli, Tito Mangialajo Rantzer, Alberto Braida and Carlo Virzi, musicians involved in Free form music.
